You are welcome here. Yes, you.

Hi there. Welcome to Reflect Therapy. We’re a private practice in Houston, TX. We specialize in working with individuals across the lifespan: adults, teens, kids. All are welcome here.

Especially you.

Maybe therapy was never part of your life plan. But the worries or self-doubts are keeping you up at night. The feelings of overwhelm and knowing you could be so much more are starting to make you quick to have emotional reactions like crying or snapping at loved ones. Or your child or teen’s struggles at school or with their own self-esteem are more than any parenting book warned you about. You never planned to seek out professional help, but you know that something isn’t working.

Taking that first step to work with a therapist can be intimidating. It can bring up lots of feelings of not being good enough or comparing yourself to others. You may not know what to expect or if you’ll be judged or shamed for how you ended up in the place you are.

That’s why we created Reflect Therapy. After going on our own therapy journeys, we knew what we wanted to build: A practice that was warm, welcoming, and authentic. No stuffy couches or suits, intense therapy jargon, or impersonal strategies. No shame or judgment. We believe that everyone is striving to feel better and do better, and we want to help you get there.

We wanted our clients to know that we look at their lives as a whole, and meet them where they are. We create a plan to help our clients grow and move forward in their lives that fits them, not prescribe one size fits all interventions. You as a unique, complete person deserve therapy that is individualized to your needs and goals.

So, welcome. Feel free to reach out and ask us any questions. We love to help and we love to hear from us.

Rebecca, therapist at Reflect Therapy

Rebecca Self, LPC

Rebecca decided that she wanted to be a child therapist when she was 8 years old and had read the book, “There’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom” by Louis Sachar. It was about a lonely and misunderstood boy who with the help of the school counselor learned to make sense of his world and make friends. Young Rebecca was so amazed that there were adults who helped kids with their problems, and could make it fun along the way. She knew that’s what she wanted to do, too.

Fast forward many years later, and Rebecca has achieved her dream. Though the path to get there was not as straightforward as her child self may have planned.

Rebecca worked for 13 years in the educational setting. As a teacher, interventionist and finally a school counselor. She worked in both Katy ISD and Houston ISD, in a variety of school settings. Even including a 2 year stint at a Montessori school. All of her many years of experience in education, showed her what it’s like to be both an educator, and a child and parent in today’s fast paced world.

Rebecca left education in 2021 to work in a private practice setting and delve even deeper into the issues facing children and teens, especially in a post Covid world. During this time she worked to earn and apply for her Registered Play Therapy certification through the Association of Play Therapy.

Rebecca not only talks the talk with the parents and children she works with, but she also walks the walk, as a parent herself. She has two young daughters that she adores spending time with. She and her husband love reading, playing outside, doing crafts, traveling and cooking with her daughters. They have visited Rebecca’s playroom and their favorite toy is the pretend kitchen.

Lauren Weiner, LPC

Shari from Reflect Therapy sitting on a chair

Lauren and Rebecca have been friends since they were assigned a group project in a 6th grade English class. (Think late 90’s, it’s been awhile!.) It had been a dream of theirs to work together and Reflect Therapy is the result of that dream.

Many years later, Lauren started off her career as a high school teacher, but quickly found that her favorite part of the job was connecting with teens and their families on a deeper emotional level, which led her to pursue her Master’s Degree in Counseling.

Lauren next worked in elementary, high school, and university level school settings as a counselor. She was passionate about helping kids, teens, and young adults, especially those who were feeling a little lost about what came next in their lives. Lauren helped them set and achieve goals for themselves, while developing an understanding of the inner potential.

Lauren has spent the last several years working in private practice, and adding adults to her client list. She specifically enjoys working with adult women who would consider themselves “recovering manic pixie dream girls”. (Millennials-you get it!) She is also EMDR trained, and uses this skill to help clients move through past hurts and experiences.

In her freetime, Lauren runs an Etsy store that sells shirts, mugs, and more with creative and fun phrases. She also loves animals and volunteers at her local shelter and has even fostered kittens. Lauren’s caring and creative nature bring so much to Reflect Therapy and her clients.

Shari Bingham, LPC, RYT-200

Lauren, therapist at Reflect Therapy

Lauren, Rebecca, and Shari all met while working in a group private practice together before combining forces to start Reflect Therapy.

Shari’s own therapy journey and the profound impact it had on her life led her to becoming a therapist. She had been a successful real estate agent in Houston, but realized what she was truly passionate about was mental health and returned to graduate school to pursue her dream.

Working with her own therapist also inspired Shari to see how helpful therapy could be and as someone who had been navigating her own mental health journey since she was in her teens, she was driven to provide that same support for other adults and teens.

After graduate school, Shari spent the early part of her therapist education in schools and agencies before starting work in a group private practice setting. Working with adults and teens to achieve deep personal growth and fulfillment through therapy continues to be inspiring to her and she shows up every day ready to support her clients.

Recently, Shari became trained in EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, a research backed therapy modality that can support healing from negative past experiences or trauma. Shari offers EMDR as part of her services with individual clients and will work with you to see if this type of therapy is a good fit for you.

Shari is also a Registered Yoga Teacher, trained in integrative somatic yoga, which she can incorporate into therapy sessions. This type of yoga helps heal the nervous system and body. It can also help people slow down, get in touch with their bodies and feelings, and even be stress relieving and Shari is there to help them process every step of the way.

When she’s not leading a passionate work life, Shari is leading a passionate recreational life! She loves live music and you can find her singing along at a concert or show. She’s a foodie who is deeply appreciative of a quality meal, and can always be asked for a good restaurant recommendation. Shari’s nurturing nature also comes out in her love for her cat Stella, who gets all the snuggles when she’s not at the office!
